The set up of the Jumbos can be detailed with one of many materials, here I have used Paua shell for the roseta and a simple wooden binding.
This is one of the most popular acoustic guitars I make. I loosely refer to them as Jumbo guitars, due to the the distinct shape, the narrow waste line and rounded shoulders of the upper and lower bouts. Note of interest : The series of early Gibson Jumbo guitars called Advanced Jumbo look similar to a dreadnought. The Advanced Jumbo reissue was produced up until 2003. In 1938 the Super Jumbo was released and in 1939 it was renamed the Super Jumbo 200, and is the instrument most people associate with the Jumbo body shape with decisive lines, narrow waist and large bouts. Latter it went on to be called the J200.
The series of Jumbo guitars I build come in basically three sizes and various formats : The large, medium and mini (parlour size). My jumbo guitars are about a 20- 40 mm wider than most instruments in their respective classes. My folio of Jumbo's come in a range of formats : cutaway, double cutaway, thin body, deep body, 6 string or 12 string. Other variations are the type of bracing and the various tone woods, bridge, pickups and neck configurations.
