Critical to any guitar is the integration of the neck join, this comes down to the perfect matching of the joining surfaces, allowing the glue a maximum bond.
The cutaway is designed for the finger picking/ plectrum player, these guitars tend to be of interest to musicians who want to play the full scale of the instrument. In my series of double cutaway guitars the neck join is set to the 16th fret, Bo Diddley and many other musicians played guitars with a 16th fret join. The Gibson 335 has a neck join at the 19th fret and the Gibson SG is set at the 22nd fret, this is possible with semi acoustic and solid body guitars on account of the design and construction of the instrument, but not feasible with an acoustic body guitar.
Regarding a full body acoustic cutaway guitar. Any neck joins beyond the 16th fret works against the build of the guitar as the cutaway and neck-block encroach on the body of the instrument effecting the acoustics. A longer neck can resolve this, but then problems of the bridge being too close to the sound hole becomes an issue. Not to mention, unless the musician has very long arms it is an uncomfortable reach to the first fret position.
Trivial note : Gibson SG stands for Solid Guitar, Gibson ES stands for Electric Spanish, specifically electric hollow body arch-top guitars.
