4 String Bass Guitar
The back bone of almost all modern electric bands is the 4 string bass guitar, in its many forms this instrument often working with drums and percussion defines the driving sound of a band.
I build a variety of 4 string basses and at a glance, they may appear similar to the shapes and configurations of Musicman, Fender, Gibson, Hofner etc. When I build any instrument the design is always influenced and determined by the musician's requirements. If you look at the image of the instrument being constructed, it has a neck join on the 18th fret, the pickups are a matched pair of single coil Hilo Pickups. The "Through Neck" (Where the neck and body are laminated together) offers excellent acoustic qualities, many musicians claim this is a superior set up compared to any bolt on neck array, as the through neck configuration allows the strings to reverberate more effectively than a bolt on neck.
The body is shaded and balanced to suit my clients playing style with attention to the instruments balance. The choice of bridge and nut, the string gauge, frets, machine heads all contribute to the feel of the instrument, not forgetting the finish and detailing. As I said at first glance my instruments may look similar to the main stream designs, on closer inspection you will appreciate they are quite different.
